Trashed by Derf Backderf

Trashed is a graphic novel by Derf Backderf which talks about his experience as a garbage man. He goes in depth on how trashy of a job it is. Backderf has all these bad experiences like kids throwing apples and rotted food at him, and he has to deal with crazy people from the town who are totally unreasonable. People want him and his partner to take an entire old car in one day and get very angry when Backderf tells them what they can’t do, including hauling away cars, washing machines, and recycling materials.  After work, he get drinks with his buddies at the local bar to relax and clear his mind after an awful day at work and to forget about his horrible boss. He also has fun on the job. He goes to the graveyard and sees one of his friend’s, Magee, who is kind of goofy and just makes the job more easy going because of his attitude towards it. Also he gets to keep anything he wants if it’s left out, so he has fun finding some new furniture for himself. I would recommend this book for anyone because it is an easy read but…

The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman

The Walking Dead is a book about survival and humanity. With people having the freedom to do whatever they want, and almost if not all laws are completely disbanded. It takes place originally in Atlanta, with a Deputy town sheriff named Rick, his wife Lori, and his son, Carl.  An unspecified virus caused a plague in the world that slowly killed it’s human host then reanimates their corpsed. After this apocalypse, this family must brawl through one tragedy after another, barely staying sane and alive.  Life just went from tolerable to a living-dead nightmare. The cast of this story often goes through a constant cycle of emotional turbulence. Now Rick and his gang have made home in an abandoned prison, and  I can certainly tell that a lot of characters are going to die.  No matter whether we hated them or loved them. There seems to be a sort of “cause and effect” loop going on with the characters. Quite a few times, when a character who was loved by other characters dies, the ones who were close to him/her, fall into a state of depression and rapidly fall in love with another character trying to comfort him/her. Since this…

My Friend Dahmer By Derf Backderf
Graphic Novel , Non-Fiction / February 3, 2017

My Friend Dahmer By Alex G Is a human being born evil? My Friend Dahmer by Derf Backderf is a graphic novel written from the perspective as one on of the biggest serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer. Jeffery is a teenage boy who struggled with the social life aspect of life and was always portrayed as being quite odd. Jeffery during his high school years liked to experiment around a lot with smaller animals. He would either cut them open or would put them in acid which would dissolve all their flesh and would be left with the corps of the animal. He then began to eventually works his way to animals that could actually feel real emotions for example, dogs. This gave Jeffrey a rush of excitement that he has never felt in his life. This was my first graphic novel and I loved it. The reason I loved it so much was because it is much easier to understand than a formal book. This was so because I was able to use the pictures as guidance throughout the book to really get a good grasp on what was going on. I also, felt like graphic novel provide a dose…

American Born Chinese — Gene Luen Yang
Drama , Graphic Novel , Young Adult / October 4, 2016

American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang is the story of a American-born, Chinese teenager, Jin Wang. He lived in an apartment near San Francisco Chinatown until 9 years old. Then he moved to a new place where most of the children from his school are western looking, he was the only Chinese-American student. Other children might come and ask, ”Do you eat dog?” or say, “Jing Jing Chun Chun.”  It made Jin feel abnormal therefore he wanted to be an, “All-American boy.” In the book, it also included a story of an American boy, who also had problems about life. We can tell that the author tried to tell us that everyone has problems in his/her life, no matter what race you are. It is important to be happy in life and focus on what we can do, and we shouldn’t waste time on what we can’t do. For example, since we cannot do much about our race, we shouldn’t even waste time to think will people dislike me because I’m Asian/Black/White . . . etc.  We should think if that person doesn’t like me because my race, oh well, and find someone else to hang out with.  We…
